This copy was published by Doubleday & McClure Co. in 1900, immediately following its bestselling 1899 debut.
The book features its striking original dark green cloth trade binding, heavily stamped with a vibrant red title block and an elegant, stylized art nouveau corn stalk motif. This particular printing features the intermediate text sheets ("glance" on page 245, line 12, and "so pretty" on line 16) housed in the variant state binding with the ear of corn on the spine pointing downward. It represents a quintessential example of turn-of-the-century publishers' decorative book arts, making it a perfect addition to a traditional study, curated vignette, or a collection of vintage Americana.
Adding to its incredible historical charm, the flyleaf features an authentic vintage "Fletcher Library" catalog stamp (No. 362). A perfect decorative or historical addition. For further provenance see the listing titled “1888 Illustrated Antique 2-Volume Hardcover Book Set: Tom Brown's School Days & at Oxford” showing a beautifully preserved, hand-inked Christmas provenance dated December 25, 1890, gifted from "Uncle Sam of Fletcher" to "Willie W. Wilson," validating the personal family library stamp.

Condition: Good antique condition consistent with age and use. The cloth boards show light shelf wear, fading mark from book next to it on bookshelf, minor rubbing to the corners, and gentle softening at the spine ends. The decorative stamped cover and spine graphics remain distinct and colorful. Structural binding is secure, and the interior text block is complete. Internally, pages show light, natural age-toning but remain clean, crisp, and unmarked. The very last rear endpaper has a small torn/cut upper corner with a minor pencil notation, and a light diagonal creased cut across the bottom edge (see photos).
