Expertly crafted in elegant amethyst sommerso glass, this sculptural bowl features a luminous opaline white core fully encased within a thick layer of transparent amethyst glass, producing remarkable depth, light refraction, and dimensional color. Its elongated biomorphic form is enhanced by gracefully upturned wing-like ends and four applied loop handles, all carefully shaped while the glass was hot.
The bowl displays many characteristics associated with high-quality Venetian art glass produced during the mid-20th century, including its sophisticated layered construction, organic sculptural silhouette, and exceptional clarity.
The underside retains its original Il Faro Italiano retailer label from Hoboken, New Jersey, a well-known importer and retailer of fine Italian decorative arts during the period. While the original Murano furnace cannot be definitively identified, the design, construction, and glassmaking techniques strongly suggest an attribution to the Murano tradition.
