Authentic Art Nouveau "Handel Ware" tobacco humidor/jar, crafted by the prestigious Handel Company of Meriden, Connecticut. It dates to the early 1900s (circa 1900–1915).
The Glass & Maker: The body is made of "Teroma" glass (an opaque, textured "biscuit" glass that feels almost like porcelain or stone). The bottom bears the genuine stamped mark: "Decorated by P.J. Handel, Meriden CT. U.S.A.".
The Artist: Crisp signature on the front—Runge. The Handel Company employed master decorators to hand-paint their pieces. Artists like Carl Runge are highly documented and sought after. His rendering of these bird dogs (English Setters/Pointers) in a field is beautifully executed.
The Top: The lid features gorgeous Art Nouveau stylized typography spelling out "Tobacco".
The Production Numbers: The hand-written numbers 871/68# on the bottom are the exact studio design and inventory tracking numbers used by Handel's artists to catalog the specific pattern.
