Tables of this length (134 inches) and narrow depth (28 inches) are classic "refectory" tables built specifically for communal monastery dining halls and monastic workspaces. Evidence of its use as a work table is visible in the deep scars along the edges.
Features: Constructed with a massive, single-plank solid wood tabletop featuring highly figured
central grain and a rich, historic patina.
The base consists of two beautifully hand-carved lyre-form trestle supports joined by an elegant, decorative pair of hand-forged scrolled wrought iron stretchers.
Shows excellent character wear and historical markings consistent with its age and an oral
history of monastery use.
Completely structurally sound.
Located locally in Los Angeles, CA (ground level/storage, easy load-out).

Structural Integrity & Hardware: The table is solid, stable, and completely structurally sound. Each hand-carved lyre trestle leg is secured to the tabletop via a heavy structural bolt. The tips of these bolts are slightly stripped; while currently holding the table securely, it is recommended that the buyer replace them for long-term ease of assembly. Base Condition: The hand-carved walnut legs show evidence of historic, inactive termite damage. This is old, stable cosmetic weathering consistent with its age and monastery history Tabletop Surface: Constructed from a massive, single-plank solid wood tabletop showcasing an extraordinary, highly figured central grain. The surface remains flat and uniform. Patina & Maintenance: The walnut wood exhibits a magnificent, deep, rich historic patina. The piece displays authentic character wear and historical markings. The tabletop would benefit from a light cleaning/waxing to refresh the finish, but it has purposefully not been sanded or refinished in order to fully preserve its irreplaceable historical wear and tool markings. less
