No need to be SLIGH… we know you LOVE this desk!! Of course you do!!! What’s NOT to LOVE??? This is a handsome Cross Country Line desk by Sligh Furniture beautifully composed of a deep onyx black painted frame featuring four stacked drawers on the left side with dovetail joints and a toe kick front, one narrow drawer over the kneehole also with dovetail joints, and an eye-catching picture frame or windowpane style side (which also creates the legs) and an open front of the desk. WOW!!! And did you notice… it bears a decorative BUT deceptive faux-divided drawer front configuration and clean, straight lines with a minimalist aesthetic indicative to the Cross Country Line. It is STUNNING in its simplicity!! So, this piece was originally composed of a blonde wood frame however, the finish was in such despair that there was just no justice in redoing it in the same color… SO… we opted to paint it this spectacular, sultry black and honestly… it is much more attractive AND it is beautifully finished on all sides so it will float FABULOUSLY in any room it is placed!! It exudes an exquisite Mid-Century Modern presence that will blend in beautifully with almost ANY style décor. It would be wonderful in your home office or study, in your students dorm room, or utilized as a writing desk in your master or guest bedroom.
In 1940, Charles R. Sligh Jr. and Bill Lowry purchased a Zeeland, Michigan plant and formed Sligh-Lowry Furniture Company. This was followed by the purchase of the Grand Rapids Chair Company in 1945. The Ply Curves subsidiary corporation of Sligh-Lowry was established in 1948. The Grand Rapids Chair Company offered a complete line of case goods. Desks and occasional pieces were manufactured in the Holland and Zeeland plants. In 1957, Charles R. Sligh Jr. accepted a paid position as Executive Vice President of the National Association of Manufacturers while remaining Chairman of the Board of the furniture company until 1988. Beginning in the early 1990's, Sligh focused on the home office furniture market. In 2002, Sligh entered the home entertainment furniture market. Sligh sold the clock business to Bulova Corporation in 2005 to concentrate on home office, home entertainment and living area wall units. Charles R. Sligh Jr. died in 1997 at the age of 91. Sligh product designers were finalists in The American Society of Furniture Designers (ASFD) annual Pinnacle Awards every year since inception in 1996 and won first place in seven of the years from 1996 to 2010. The company operated successfully until 1968 when Lowry retired and the name reverted to Sligh Furniture Company. In 2011, Sligh Furniture was acquired by Lexington Home Brands, however, they continue to design and market products under the Sligh trademark.
