Original 1802 antique natural history engraving featuring the American Asp, male and female, alongside the Egyptian Asp. The serpents have wonderful movement across the plate, with fine engraved detail and a striking old-world presence.
Presented in a warm wood frame with deep dark matting, this piece has strong dark academia appeal: ideal for a study, library, cabinet-of-curiosities wall, natural history collection, or layered interior with antique maps, botanicals, shells, insects, and scientific engravings.
The engraving is after Albertus Seba and was engraved by J. Pass for John Wilkes’ Encyclopaedia Londinensis. Seba’s imagery is closely tied to the great cabinet-of-curiosities tradition, making this a decorative piece with real historical and collector interest.
