Zulu Knobkerrie Carved wood stick on a custom base
To be an accomplished stick fighter is an integral part of Zulu manhood. (See "ZULU" by de la Harpe et al.) These knobkerrie sticks are still carried, despite efforts to make them illegal. It is not uncommon to see a Zulu man in a Western dress carrying one, and they appear at all ceremonies.
