The curved, openwork backrest and the slender, tapered legs give the pair a calm, clearly proportioned appearance. Historical Context: Chairs of this type emerged during a time when traditional furniture making was increasingly merging with the geometric and organic design principles of Art Deco. Such models were typically found in the dining or living rooms of middle-class homes, often as a pair or as part of a larger set. The use of oak and the handcrafted construction of the backrest were characteristic of high-end furniture production in France during the 1920s and 1930s.
