One of the leading sporting artists of the 19th century, Alken is best known for his lively depictions of fox hunting, coaching, racing, and other English country pursuits. This unusual print documents the Westminster Cock Pit, one of London's most famous cockfighting venues, offering a fascinating glimpse into a popular but now long-forbidden aspect of early Victorian sporting life.

This impression features a strong, well-defined plate mark with generous margins and retains its original hand coloring. The print is credited "Drawn by H. Alken" in the lower left and bears the title "Westminster Cock Pit in 1830" below the image. A faint "Proof" notation is present in the lower margin. I have not been able to determine the exact date or state of this impression, so I encourage interested buyers to examine the photographs carefully and make their own determination.
