A well-carved French coffret jewelry box, dating to circa 1890. The lid is topped by a grouping of two animals surrounded by a shaped console with lozenge ground filled with roundels. Inside are two tiers of compartments for storing jewelry, each lined with red silk. The exterior has subtle curves, barbs, and incised corners that give the coffret a unique form.
