A study in restraint. The PK22 pares the lounge chair down to two flat bands of satin-brushed spring steel and a single woven seat — nothing added, nothing concealed. Kjærholm chose steel over the wood favored by his Danish peers, treating it as a natural material worthy of the same respect, and let the play of light across its surface stand in for ornament. The hand-woven wicker warms that industrial precision and earns its patina with use — the organic set against the exact.

The frame's profile began in his graduation project, the PK25 "Element" chair, and was later split into separate elements for production. Awarded the Grand Prix at the 1957 Milan Triennale, the PK22 became an international success and remains one of Kjærholm's most celebrated designs — a genuine classic held in the permanent collections of MoMA and the V&A. Originally issued under E. Kold Christensen; produced by Fritz Hansen since 1982.
