A handsome antique Victorian washstand in chestnut with walnut accents, most likely produced at a furniture factory in the Lebanon County, Pennsylvania area, circa 1870. Chestnut is a genuinely rare primary wood to find in production furniture from this era, making this a distinctive piece for collectors familiar with the material.
The drawer is constructed using Knapp joinery — the distinctive scalloped, machine-cut "pin and scallop" dovetail patented by Charles B. Knapp of Massachusetts in the 1870s. This machine-cut joint quickly replaced hand-cut dovetails in factory furniture production and is a useful, datable marker of manufacture from this exact period. The washstand features a shaped backsplash with two small shelf brackets, carved walnut drawer pulls, and a lower two-door cabinet with the original turned wooden door knob, retaining its original finish throughout.

Condition: Original as-found condition. Retains the original cabinet door knob and drawer pulls. Minor use and wear marks consistent with age. Some old paint splatter/drips to the surface from a prior wall painting project, as the piece was not covered at the time.
