Originating from the historic metalworking traditions of Sana'a, Yemen, this striking piece showcases a collapsible accordion-style body made of heavy cream-colored fabric.
The top cap and bottom base feature intricate, hand-stamped filigree and repoussé metalwork. The finish is a traditional tinned/silver-plated coating over a sturdy base metal, giving it a beautiful, aged character. The bottom base is uniquely accented with original colored stone/glass inset detailing and features the classic multi-pronged 2" metal feet.
When expanded and lit from within, the delicate framing and pierced metal cast a spectacular, atmospheric glow. It collapses flat for easy storage or safe travel and has a pull-out drawer to remove ashes.

Heavy darkening is concentrated within the recessed filigree stampings and wirework borders, which beautifully emphasizes the geometric details. There are scattered surface scuffs, fine scratches, and minor abrasions consistent with regular handling. Cabochons & Insets: The central and perimeter red cabochons (likely carnelian or glass) are intact, securely seated in their bezels, and free of major fractures or cracks. They show a lovely glossy finish with only faint surface wear. Structure & Openwork: The dome-shaped lid, pierced geometric cutouts, and main cylindrical body are structurally stable. There is minor, age-appropriate warping or slight asymmetry along the hand-fitted rims, which is typical for handcrafted metalware of this region. Hardware & Handle: The smooth, thick wire handle is securely attached to its hinges. The central hinge loops and front latch drop look complete and functional, though they show typical antique friction wear. less
