An exceptional large hand-painted ceramic centerpiece bowl by the celebrated French pottery atelier Jérôme Massier of Vallauris, dating to the early 20th century (circa 1900).
Beautifully potted with a generous rounded form, the bowl is decorated in the Art Nouveau taste with an abundant field of colorful wildflowers including poppies, daisies, cornflowers, buttercups, and wheat sheaves, all painted in vibrant enamels against a luminous iridescent ivory ground. A rich amber-colored band beneath the dark brown glazed rim provides a striking contrast and frames the exuberant floral decoration.
The subtly mottled glaze creates a soft pearlescent effect that enhances the painterly quality of the decoration. The composition wraps continuously around the vessel, allowing it to display beautifully from every angle, making it an ideal centerpiece or decorative cachepot.
Produced by the renowned Massier family of Vallauris, whose innovative ceramic works helped define the French Art Nouveau movement, this bowl exemplifies the workshop's mastery of richly glazed decorative pottery and finely executed hand-painted enamels.
Signed on the underside.
A substantial decorative piece equally suited for traditional, Art Nouveau, or contemporary interiors.
