Eero Saarinen's father, Eliel Saarinen, was the director of the Cranbrook Academy, which is now considered the cradle of modern American design. It was here that the paths of Florence Knoll, Harry Bertoia, Eero Saarinen, and Charles Eames crossed, leading to a close friendship and collaboration among the artists.
