The lid lifts on its original iron hinge and latch, opening to a deep storage cavity that would originally have held textiles or household goods. The wood shows a worn red lacquer ground with visible brushwork and age-appropriate rubbing at the corners and top surface, consistent with decades of handling — DE-COR has left this patina untouched rather than restoring the finish, since the wear is part of what reads as authentic rather than reproduction. Iron corner hardware and the original latch remain functional.

DE-COR has set the trunk into a custom-fabricated iron stand with a black finish, raising it to functional coffee-table height while preserving the trunk itself as a free-standing storage piece — the trunk can be lifted off the stand independently.
