Rare 1965 Herbert Bayer "Tender Picture E" Offset Lithograph – Bauhaus Masterpiece
Bring a piece of authentic Bauhaus history into your collection.
Up for sale is an extraordinary, highly elusive 1965 offset lithograph by Herbert Bayer (Austrian, 1900–1985), the legendary master and last living member of the Bauhaus.
Titled "Tender Picture E," this stunning work bridges Bayer’s classic 1920s avant-garde vision with his mid-century portfolio.
Prints from this historic 1965 portfolio seldom hit the open market. This is a premier opportunity to acquire a rare Bayer treasure more than 60 years after its printing.
Artist: Herbert Bayer (Austrian, 1900–1985)
Title: Tender Picture E
Year of Printing: 1965 (From a limited portfolio of 14 lithographs)
Original Composition Year: 1928
Dimensions: 22" W x 16.5" H
Condition: Very Good (Unframed)
Plate Signed Lower Right
Look closely at the lower-left corner. The notation reads "1. tender picture E 1928/22". This indicates it is the first print from his coveted 1965 portfolio. It also references that the original oil-on-board painting was composed in 1928 and was Bayer's 22nd painting of that monumental year.
Herbert Bayer wasn’t just a student; he was the Director of Printing and Advertising at the Bauhaus art school in Germany until 1928. His work shaped modern graphic design as we know it.
Because individual sheets from this 1965 portfolio are so rarely broken up or sold, this is a highly collectible piece for serious modernist and avant-garde art collectors.
This lithograph is in very good vintage condition and is being sold unframed. It has been meticulously cared for. We highly recommend using archival, acid-free museum-quality materials when framing to protect and preserve this investment for decades to come.
