Jean Jansem was an internationally acclaimed Armenian-French painter and printmaker. Born in 1920, Jansem spent his childhood in Greece before moving to Paris at age 11. He graduated from the prestigious École des Arts Décoratifs in 1938 and regularly studied at the famous Académie de la Grande Chaumière.

Jansem is globally celebrated for his distinct, melancholic, and deeply expressive figures, landscapes, and genre scenes. Throughout his prolific career, he exhibited worldwide—from Paris and New York to Tokyo and Rome. In 2003, he was awarded the French Legion of Honor for his monumental contributions to the art world.
