The serpentine-front form with canted corners reflects the 18th-century commode tradition rendered by skilled regional workshop craftsmen of the late 19th century.

The walnut veneer drawer fronts are finished in a chevron/herringbone pattern with crossbanded borders, framed by fine ebony and boxwood diamond stringing — a detail that speaks to the quality of the original commission. The four-drawer configuration features a split top drawer, all retaining their original cast Rococo acanthus pulls in darkened metal.

The quartersawn top carries the same diamond stringing border and book-matched veneer field. Bracket feet, darkened secondary wood on back panels and drawer bottoms — all consistent with Continental provincial workshop construction of the period.

Minor losses at the top front edge; visible but stable
Surface scratching and one veneer crack/split on the top
Back panel unfinished and worn — typical and expected for age
Pulls present and intact; consistent patina throughout
