This platter from the 1880s by Charles Meakin is in utterly remarkable condition. There are no chips or cracks or crazing. There are minor scratches to the finish on the front and that is the extent of any damage at all which leads me to believe that this platter was never used. Extremely heavy weighs more than 2 lbs.
Has the signature design elements of late-Victorian utilitarian ironstone: Minimalist Aesthetic: Features a plain, undecorated glossy white glaze, letting its structural geometry stand alone without traditional molded floral reliefs or transferware patterns. Geometric Silhouette: Employs an elongated, rectangular form with broad, wide rims and slightly bowed outer margins. Durable Build: Possesses a substantial, heavy-weight vitrified body intentionally crafted by the Meakin brothers to resist chipping and endure everyday household use.
Fits in with French country, rustic cottage, and traditional or modern farmhouse kitchens, or even with modern homes because of the geometric form.
