The curved medallion backrest, the carved finial, and the splayed legs create a calm, well-proportioned overall form. Historical context: Chairs of this type date back to the Louis-Philippe era, when a restrained, comfortable design became popular for bourgeois homes. They were usually part of a seating set in the parlor or dining room and combined a curved back with an upholstered seat. Around 1900, these forms were revived during the Historicism period and produced for middle-class households, with the rocaille-style finial retained as a design element. Features: Openwork carved finial with a floral motif at the top of the backrest. A continuous row of brass decorative nails along the seat upholstery. Design: Medallion- or balluon-shaped backrest with curved lines, curved legs at the front, saber legs at the back. The carved crowning element adds a rocaille accent, while the rest of the design remains formally closed and calmly structured. Function: Originally used as a single chair in a seating set in the parlor or dining room. Today, it can be used as a single side or accent chair, for example, at a desk, in the bedroom, or in the entryway. Dimensions: Overall height 90 cm × width 46 cm × depth 43 cm, seat height 45 cm. Material and condition: Solid wood frame, seat upholstered in yellow velvet, trimmed with brass decorative nails. Preserved in keeping with its age, with a gentle patina and visible signs of wear; a small, slightly worn, and slightly torn area in the velvet upholstery on the front edge of the seat, and a fine crack in the carved crowning element.
