Presenting a magnificent, monumental Chinese export porcelain punch bowl from the late Qing Dynasty (late 19th century). This striking piece features an incredibly detailed, vibrant palette of traditional Famille Rose enamels and meticulous gilding, showcasing masterful historic craftsmanship.
Iconography & Theme: 课子图 (Kezi Tu)
The exterior of the bowl is beautifully hand-painted with the classic narrative theme of 课子图 (Kezi Tu), which depicts a mother and family tutoring the next generation. In Chinese culture, this poignant scene represents the transmission of knowledge, discipline, and wisdom, carrying a profound blessing for the family's future lineage to ascend to great wealth, official rank, and success.
The Imperial Mark & Attribution
The underside of the bowl features a six-character iron-red mark reading 大清乾隆年制 (Da Qing Qianlong Nian Zhi), referencing the Qianlong Reign of the Qing Dynasty. It is important to note that this is a textbook 寄托款 (Jìtuō kuǎn)—an honorific or apocryphal mark highly popular during the late 19th century. Rather than being a mid-Qing period piece, late 19th-century artisans added this mark as a sign of deep reverence and tribute to the artistic peak of the Qianlong Emperor's era.
Texture & Authenticity
The artistry on this piece is fully hand-painted. You can physically feel the impressive depth and uneven, raised texture of the thick enamel paint layered across the porcelain surface. The characteristic wear on the unglazed bottom rim, the styling of the ring mark, and the weight of the porcelain all elegantly verify its authentic late 19th-century age.
A Versatile Showstopper
This monumental centerpiece is an absolute showstopper. While it pairs beautifully with the console table in the photos, its timeless aesthetic ensures it will command attention in any living room—whether styled on top of a traditional wood table, showcased on a deep bookshelf, or displayed as a standalone focal piece.
