Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, the ottoman and the chair have had repairs within the weaving underneath the cushions. YA, MON!!!!! … That’s right… this is a marvelous lounge chair and ottoman duo by Calif-Asia both pieces composed of beautifully bent and wrapped rattan frames each hosting loose cushions wearing an alluring contemporary abstract fabric bursting with lovely pastel shades of blue, white, pink, and coral. Both the seat cushion and ottoman cushions rest upon a wonderful woven rattan base and the chair retains a low stance with curved arms and a slight back lean creating an ergonomically pleasing seating experience. The ottoman features straight, horizontal side stretchers with a decorative arched bent rattan front apron while the chair bears an apron featuring a decorative bent rattan bar and horizontal single wrapped rattan bar stretchers between all four legs adding both sturdiness and spectacular style!! This is just the set you need to lean back, kick your feet up, and relax in your Tropical, Coastal, Island, Boho Chic, or even Campaign or Mid-Century Modern style sitting, family, or living room. Calif-Asia was founded in the 1920’s by Bessie Abbott Ochs as a prominent importer and manufacturer of bentwood and rattan furniture based out of Los Angeles, California. During the 1940’s through the 1960’s Calif-Asia capitalized on the booming demand for casual and rather bohemian style home aesthetics. Their pieces stood out due to their distinct bent cane and rattan configurations, iron frames, and use of wicker and cane. They collaborated with the era’s most legendary designers including Paul McCobb, Milo Baughman, and Danny Ho Fung. Calif-Asia gained massive popularity in the 50’s and 60’s and rivaled with other luxury makers such as McGuire and Ficks Reed as production methods evolved overseas before scaling back in the late 20th Century. The company closed its doors in 1969; however, they are a staple for collectors in vintage furnishings and their iconic pieces are highly sought after today.
