These two large-scale artisan ceramic vases feature a sculptural ovoid form with a narrow, gently flared neck and a softly rounded shoulder. Each vase stands 24 inches high with a substantial 16-inch diameter, offering strong architectural presence suitable for floor display.
The surface decoration is achieved through layered cream and brown glazes applied in horizontal bands, creating a striated effect reminiscent of wood grain or sedimentary stone. The swirling movement of the glaze appears to have been developed during wheel rotation, giving both pieces a sense of organic motion while maintaining a restrained, neutral palette.
Although clearly related, the two vases differ subtly in pattern density and tonal distribution.
Left vase (Inventory YNE737): Features more pronounced dark brown banding and stronger contrast across the shoulder and midsection.
Right vase (Inventory YNE700): Displays a lighter cream ground with softer, more diffused brown striations and a slightly calmer overall surface.
The scale and neutral coloration make these vases well suited to contemporary, organic modern, wabi-sabi, or transitional interiors. They work beautifully as individual statement pieces or as a complementary pair in a symmetrical setting.
The bases are unglazed with visible kiln and firing marks consistent with studio production.
Sold and priced individually.
