Here is a fabulous vintage Neoclassical coffee table in the style of Maison Jansen, likely dating to the later 20th century, 1970-80s. Crafted of polished steel with an inset mirrored top, the table combines a beautifully architectural form with wonderfully sculptural detailing. Slender tapered legs are accented with stepped collars and petite turned feet, while graceful curved stretchers sweep inward from each corner to meet beneath a decorative urn-form finial at the center. Viewed from the ends, the supports create an especially beautiful X-shaped silhouette. The mirrored top reflects light while keeping the overall look airy and elegant.
What I love most about this table is the balance of classical detailing and clean, polished metal. It has the refined French Neoclassical influence associated with Maison Jansen, yet feels fresh enough to work beautifully in a modern or collected interior.
An older paper label remains on the underside of the mirrored top identifying the materials as “Mirror & Steel.”
