A rare and exceptional Edwardian Stourbridge cut‑glass tulipiere, produced by S & W Ltd (Stevens & Williams Ltd) between 1905–1925. This beautifully crafted piece features a fan‑shaped neck with multiple openings, designed for artistic floral arranging, and showcases the high‑skill engraving and cutting for which the Stourbridge region is renowned.
Markings:
Hand‑engraved “S & W Ltd”
Pattern number 24048
Engraver’s signature (appears to read Lalini or similar)
Measurements:
Height: 10 inches
Base width: 4 inches
Fan width: 5.25 inches
Decoration:
Intricate leafy floral engraving on both sides
Crisp star‑cut base
Fine facet cuts along the rim and openings to catch the light
This is a premium engraved example of early 20th‑century Stourbridge craftsmanship. The tulipiere form is uncommon, and the combination of deep wheel‑cut facets, floral engraving, and a signed base indicates a higher‑end workshop piece rather than standard production. The pattern number places it within the
Art Nouveau to early Art Deco period, and the signature suggests the work of a named engraver — a feature highly sought after by collectors.
The vase displays brilliantly, with the faceted edges and star‑cut base catching and reflecting light beautifully. A superb addition to any collection of English art glass, Stourbridge crystal, or antique floral vessels.
Provenance & Dating
