This Really is a Great Looking Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Butter Churn Crock. Butter Churn Crocks are Easily Identified as they have a Recessed Top Inner Perimeter Ledge to Hold a Typically Wood Lid with a Center Hole for the Plunger. Circa Mid 19th Century. It is Completely Hand Made on a Potters Wheel. It has a Very Nice Uniform Rusty Greige Color Salt Glaze Exterior. The Interior is Rendered in a Caramel Brown Color. The Front is Hand Decorated with a Beautiful Deep Cobalt Blue Stylized Flower Design. It Also has Matching Blue Decorated Highlights at the Handles - "Ears". It is Not Marked as Such but its Small Size Confirms its Approx 1 Gallon Size Storage Capacity. The Front is Embossed - Signed by the Historically Important and Well Documented Harrisburg Pennsylvania Maker "COWDEN & WILCOX". Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. It is in Very Nice All Original Condition and Displays Beautifully. Imperfection Noted - It has Some Hairline Cracks Extending from the Top Rim in the Back Side. It is Still Structurally Sound. A Perfect Vessel to Hold your Wooden Spoons in a County Kitchen.
