The expansive composition presents elegantly dressed figures gathered within an idyllic wooded landscape. A seated female figure occupies the foreground while attendants approach nearby, all surrounded by luxuriant foliage, flowering plants and an atmospheric distant landscape. Richly draped crimson and rose-colored fabric forms dramatic canopies at either side of the composition, intertwined with abundant floral garlands and architectural elements.
The subject and composition reflect the renewed 19th-century French fascination with the pastoral and fête galante imagery of the 18th century. The tapestry combines Rococo Revival romanticism with the softer, atmospheric landscape tradition associated with French decorative tapestry.
