named after a character from the science fiction novel ubik, the pat conley series reflects starck's experimental approach to furniture design during the 1980s. While the first version featured a woven plastic cord seat, the pat conley ii model is distinguished by its entirely folded sheet steel construction.

finished in black lacquer, the chair is composed of two tubular front legs supporting a single sculptural element that forms the armrests and rounded backrest. The curved sheet metal seat extends to create the rear support, resulting in a continuous and highly graphic silhouette.
