An exceptional piece of English ceramic history: an antique Royal Doulton Lambeth stoneware tobacco jar (humidor) dating precisely between 1922 and 1927.
This cylindrical jar features a mesmerizing, multi-toned crystalline glaze shifting from deep forest green and teal to rich variegated brown tones along the rim and base. It is equipped with Royal Doulton’s iconic, proprietary brass spring-tension mechanical clamping bar, engineered to create an airtight seal.
The underside is fully documented with impressed and incised marks:
• The Royal Doulton Lion & Crown Backstamp (used 1922–1927)
• PATENT Nº 194168 (for the locking lid mechanism)
• Shape No. 8615
• Inscribed Artist Monogram "MW" for senior Doulton Lambeth studio artisan Minnie Webb.
