The entire piece is executed in brass that has developed a warm, even patina over time, neither stripped nor over-polished, but settled into the kind of soft golden tone that only comes with age. The glass is clear and in excellent condition.

The faux bamboo motif, brass cast and worked to simulate the nodes and segments of natural bamboo, was at the height of its popularity in the 1960s and 1970s, produced in greatest quantity in Italy and France, and associated with the ateliers of Maison Jansen and Maison Baguès, whose influence on this decorative vocabulary was considerable. The canted octagonal corners of the tray, the gallery edge, and the arched stretcher base are all hallmarks of the Italian production of the period.

The piece functions equally well as a drinks table, a side table beside a sofa, or a surface for styling with barware and decorative objects. It suits Hollywood Regency, Palm Beach Regency, English Traditional, and Chinoiserie interiors with equal ease, and is a natural companion to tortoiseshell lacquer, rattan, or dark wood furniture.
