An authentic mid-century writing chair from Pierre Jeanneret's celebrated Chandigarh commission, designed by Jeanneret and the Chandigarh design team for the city's universities and institutions in India. Hand-built in solid bug and moisture resistant Burma teak with a square-woven cane seat and back, the chair features the signature "compass" (V-shaped) double-side legs that became the defining motif of Chandigarh furniture, paired with an integrated solid-teak writing tablet. As with all Chandigarh pieces, it was made by hand in local workshops, giving it the subtle irregularities and individual character that distinguish genuine examples from later reproductions. In good vintage condition with a beautiful patina throughout — the warm, deepened teak and honest wear of decades of institutional use, which collectors prize as evidence of authenticity. A rare and historically significant piece of modernist design from a UNESCO World Heritage city.

This particular example is in great vintage condition with no major blemishes on the teak frames or cane seat. The cane remains taught and structurally sound. A stencil was added to the back of the chair at one point, probably a designation of the building in Chandigarh which it once sat in.
