The restrained elegance and grace of this mahogany chest of drawers is a wonderful example of how British furniture makers were influenced by Chinese style in the late 1700s. The straight, clean lines of this chest are adopted from Chinese furniture making traditions of that period, leaving behind all the curves and ornamented carving that were popular in earlier styles. The French bracket feet is a common feature with many Neoclassical pieces, and the simple band of ebony inlay above the top set of drawers complements the restrained aesthetic while fitting in with the darker inlay trends that appeared in the British Regency furniture in the early 1800s.
The understated beauty of this chest and its smaller dimensions make it a versatile piece that will add character to a space without making it feel too busy. The chest is fully functional and ready for daily use, but please check condition notes as from the pictures, you can see there is some peeling to the finish on the sides of the piece.

It has the marks and scratches you would … moreThis chest is in wonderful structural condition with drawers that slide smoothly. It has the marks and scratches you would expect on a piece that is over 200 years old. The most significant condition issue is on the sides where the finish has peeled in some places giving a striped appearance in places. There is also a gouge on the right side of the chest, just above the front foot. While these issues are noticeable, they are only visible from the sides as the top and front have no issues with the finish. We have accounted for the condition issues in the listed price. less
