Hairenian escaped the Armenia Genocide in 1916 making his way to San Francisco. Hairenian worked under renowned San Fransico metal crafter Dirk van Erp between 1920-1923 and then for Fred Brosi's Old Mission Kopper Kraft before opening his own shop around 1925.
