Published by Daniel Rice & James G. Clark in Philadelphia between 1842 and 1844, this pair features two historically significant, visually powerful portraits:No-Way-Ke-Sug-Ga (An Otoe Chief): One of the most famous and highly coveted images in the entire series, instantly recognizable by his magnificent grizzly bear-claw necklace, silver peace medal, and vibrant red headdress.Mon-Chon-Siaa (A Kansas Chief / White Plume): A commanding portrait of the famous Kansa Nation diplomat who famously navigated early territorial treaties with the U.S. government.Because the original oil paintings of these chiefs were entirely destroyed in the catastrophic Smithsonian fire of 1865, these 1842 lithographs represent the only surviving visual record of these indigenous leaders.Size & Specifications:Date: 1842–1844 (First Edition, First Issue text lines for Volume III)Medium: Authentic stone lithograph with original hand-applied watercolor washes.Sheet Size: Trimmed historically to 12 3/4" x 8 3/4" Framing: High-quality custom gold wood gallery framing with clean double-matting under glass.
