The statues are hand-carved from wood and finished with rustic polychrome paint. The figures are wearing traditional Javanese royal attire, including distinct headwear and patterned batik sarongs. This antique (c. 1880s-1900s) couple is in fine structural condition with wear commensurate for their age.

Historically, these statues were placed in the krobongan (a sacred, central ceremonial room or wedding bed area) of a traditional Javanese home. During wedding ceremonies, they acted as protective doppelgängers to bless the newlyweds with abundance and a long-lasting marriage.
