Traveling Man treasures is selling this antique Chinese bronze Luohan (Arhat) head, representing an enlightened disciple of Buddha. This fine example of late 19th-century Luohan head is in weathered but stable condition and mounted on a wood block plinth display.
The prominent stylized, wavy brow lines, clean-shaven bald head, elongated earlobes, and serenely downcast eyes are textbook features of classical Luohan portraiture in Chinese Buddhist art. Made from hollow-cast bronze, the head has a heavy, dark-green verdigris patina and remnants of lacquer coating.
