Curt Meyer-Eberhardt (1895–1977)
Portrait of an Eagle
Etching with Aquatint, c. 1930s
A striking and exceptionally powerful portrait of an eagle by acclaimed German printmaker Curt Meyer-Eberhardt. Rendered with remarkable precision and depth, this masterfully executed etching with aquatint captures the commanding presence and piercing gaze of one of nature's most iconic birds.
Printed with rich tonal contrast and outstanding detail, this is a superb example of Meyer-Eberhardt's celebrated ability to bring wildlife to life on paper. While the artist is best known for his highly sought-after etchings of dogs and sporting subjects, his eagle compositions are encountered far less frequently, making this an especially desirable work for collectors of fine animal art and German printmaking.
Presented unframed, ready to be matted and displayed to suit a contemporary or traditional interior. The original frame is no longer present. The reverse of the sheet shows minor tape residue from a previous framing; otherwise, the print is in very good vintage condition with a clean image and full margins.

Born in Leipzig in 1895 as Kurt Ernst Meyer, Curt Meyer-Eberhardt studied in Weimar from 1912–1917 under Max Thedy, Theodor Hagen, and Walther Klemm. He later attended the Staatliche Bauhaus, where he studied portraiture under Lyonel Feininger before settling in Munich. His early work reflects Expressionist and Cubist influences, while his mature style developed into a distinctive blend of Impressionist and naturalistic realism. Meyer-Eberhardt achieved international recognition for his sensitive and technically accomplished depictions of animals, many of which were published by Hanfstaengl Editions in Munich. He died in 1977.
Condition: Very good vintage condition, consistent with age. Minor tape residue on the reverse from previous framing; otherwise, the print presents beautifully.
