An exceptionally well-preserved antique side chair dating to approximately 1900, distinguished by its beautifully figured bird’s-eye maple crest rail and elegant lyre-form back. The naturally occurring bird’s-eye figure creates a striking marbled pattern across the wood, making each chair uniquely beautiful while showcasing the quality of the materials and craftsmanship.
The chair is further enhanced by its beautifully preserved hand-needlepoint upholstered seat, featuring a bouquet of pink roses set against a soft robin’s egg blue ground and finished with classic cream braid trim. The warmth of the figured maple paired with the delicate needlepoint creates a timeless combination that complements Traditional, Federal, and collected antique interiors.
What truly distinguishes this chair is its remarkable state of preservation. The finish retains its rich warmth and beautiful figuring, the frame remains exceptionally sturdy, and the needlepoint upholstery is vibrant and exceptionally well preserved. Its outstanding condition suggests it spent much of its life as a decorative or lightly used piece, making it an increasingly uncommon survivor from the turn of the twentieth century.
Whether placed at a writing desk, vanity, bedroom, or entryway, this elegant antique offers both everyday functionality and enduring decorative appeal.
