Offered is a vintage mid 20th Century 1960s large fluted vase made in Tonalá, Jalisco, Mexico, a province renowned for its earth-tone clay and much of the Mexican pottery and ceramic art created since the 1950s. The burnished glaze, subtle sheen and colors are indicative of earlier Tonalá pottery - later pieces are known for brighter colors and more glossy glaze.
This piece is larger than most Tonalá vases and measures approximately 7.5" diameter, and 17.5" tall. It's hand painted with a deep camel undercoat and is embellished on both sides with white doves and graphic flowers and vertical design patterns in cinnamon, terracotta, coffee, off white, dove gray, and charcoal. The ceramic base is a soft putty color and definitely feels like a clay mix.
