These village weavings from the Caucasus Mountains were produced on upright looms by women in tribal communities using hand-spun local wool. The designs draw on ancient symbolic geometry (protective motifs like latch-hooked elements and diamonds) rendered in a direct, rhythmic style characteristic of the region. The field presents two vertical panels of hooked diamond medallions and geometric devices in saturated rust to coral reds, orange, brown and cream, separated by a narrow central stripe and framed by broad pale brick red borders. Expertly mounted on a fabric-lined stretcher for wall presentation. Retaining strong color and graphic tribal character, this small-format Caucasian weaving offers striking decorative impact in contemporary or traditional settings. See less
