In 1918, Jean Mérillon purchased a pottery workshop in Caudéran, on the outskirts of Bordeaux. In 1919, he founded the C.A.B. (Céramique d’Art de Bordeaux) earthenware factory. CAB produced avant-garde pieces, influenced by Art Nouveau and Art Deco, and participated in the major Primavera venture by producing pieces for the Printemps department stores. This spherical vase features a beautiful gray-green glaze with nuanced drips on a blood-red background. It is a typical piece from the 1920s, with a simple form that showcases the potters' expertise in glazing and firing techniques.
The vase is made of glazed stoneware, Art Deco period. It is stamped "Made in France" on the underside.
9 to 19 cm in diameter, 18 cm in height.
