Each … Read more A charming pair of Spanish Baroque angel torchères dating from the 18th century, carved in wood and richly polychromed. Each kneeling angel is depicted supporting a torch-form candleholder, resting upon an architectural pedestal decorated with heraldic motifs and gilt accents. The figures retain their original expressive character, with delicately carved drapery, brightly painted garments and stylized wings highlighted in red, blue and white tones. The combination of sculpture, lighting function and decorative architectural bases gives the pair strong visual presence, making them particularly suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors. Examples of devotional furnishings of this type were commonly commissioned for chapels, oratories and ecclesiastical interiors throughout Spain during the Baroque period.
