This vase has a tapered shape and is made in two parts consisting of an inner and outer vase. The outer vase is white, with thin green and red stripes around the upper rim. The inner vase is transparent, with blue and green circular patterns. The vase is marked with a number sequence to the underside that Shay uses to mark his works.

Born in New York City, Shay studied at New York University and the University of Wisconsin. He has taught at several universities, including Ohio State University, the Herron School of Art and Design, and the University of Kentucky. Shay's works are held in the collections of the American Museum of Ceramic Art in Pomona, California, the Ohio Craft Museum in Columbus, Ohio, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, among others.
