This truly magnificent leaded glass table lamp was produced by the Unique Art Glass & Metal Company of New York (active 1889–1917), circa 1915. Following the expiration of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s copper-foil patent in 1903, Unique Art Glass became one of the most formidable competitors to Tiffany Studios, creating exceptional works that closely followed Tiffany’s aesthetic and craftsmanship. The massive 19" grapevine shade is a superb example of their artistry — hand-crafted with hundreds of meticulously cut and curved pieces of premium art glass (Youghiogheny, Uroboros, and Bullseye). It features lush variegated emerald green leaves and clusters of deep amber and cobalt blue grapes that drape organically around the shade. The rim has a natural, hand-cut varying length (17–18"), giving it a dynamic sculptural presence. The shade rests on an exceptionally rare and spectacular Egyptian-themed bronze base. This 9" square library-style base features four finely detailed sphinx figures — I have never seen another lamp with this exact configuration. The heavy, high-quality bronze base beautifully supports the weight of the large shade and adds tremendous visual impact.
