The front cover is wrapped in a rich, deep crimson/burgundy velvet. Velvet was historically reserved for high-status ecclesiastical books, royal ledgers, or luxury presentation folios. The fabric shows a beautiful, authentic patina with expected tracking, minor compression, and darkening along the margins from decades of handling.
The central focal point is a cast-bronze applique of a lion rampant, one that is standing on its hind legs with forepaws raised. In heraldry, this represents strength, nobility, and courage. Floating directly above the lion is an independent, cast-metal five-pointed coronet style crown.
