Exquisite French bistro-style bar cabinet from the 1980s. Made of cherry wood, with a zinc top, polished gilt brass handles and details, and ornamental frosted glass doors inscribed with "Bistrot de Paris." It belongs to the "Les Provinciales" collection by Roche Bobois, one of the most iconic classic collections in the world of luxury furniture. This collection was born in the 1980s with the aim of reinterpreting the charm of traditional French cabinetmaking and classic Provençal aesthetics, offering an elegant and timeless rustic style that suited the new homes and country houses of the time.
The bistro style originated in the small restaurants, cafes, and taverns of Paris in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It's an aesthetic that combines the functionality of a hospitality business with an intimate, bohemian, and welcoming atmosphere. In the original bistros, the bar (le comptoir) was not just a serving piece of furniture, but the meeting point.
It features the most characteristic elements of the style. The gilt brass handrail is a classic element of safety and comfort. It allowed customers to lean comfortably while standing and protected the wooden structure from daily wear and tear. The engraved "Bistrot de Paris" lettering uses a typeface that emulates the commercial signs of the early 20th century. The frosted finish serves a dual purpose: it elegantly conceals its contents and lends a distinctly Parisian graphic touch. The use of aged hardwoods was also very common.
This piece perfectly embodies the essence of the Parisian bistro style, which is currently a major trend in interior design for kitchens and dining rooms. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising

misattribution
