Its tall, compact form presents open shelving on all four sides, allowing books to remain visible and readily accessible as the upper case revolves upon its pedestal.
Hand-crafted from oak, the bookcase features paneled vertical supports accented with carved Renaissance-inspired motifs, slender slatted dividers and molded trim along the crown and base. The revolving case is supported by a boldly shaped cross-form pedestal embellished with carved scrolls and fitted with small casters. The warm aged finish and natural patina enrich the oak while preserving the character earned through more than a century of use.
A distinctive example of late 19th century French library furniture, this antique bookcase combines ingenious function with the stately craftsmanship associated with the Renaissance Revival period.
