Traveling Man Treasures is selling this patinated bronze statuette depicting a Faun/Satyr playing a double flute (also known as an … Read more Traveling Man Treasures is selling this patinated bronze statuette depicting a Faun/Satyr playing a double flute (also known as an aulos) dated to the Grand Tour Era (c. 1660-1840 CE).  This diminutive work is considered to be a Grand Tour souvenir, most likely cast in Italy during the later part of the era. In excellent condition for its age, the bronze has a natural aged verdigris patina.

The stauette represents a youthful figure from classical mythology—either Pan, a Satyr, or a Faun—associated with nature, music, and performance. The figure is playing an ancient double-reed woodwind instrument, typically rendered in these bronzes as two distinct pipes held to the mouth.
