Offered is a rare early 20th century Watson-Mechanics wheat sheaf handle 5 1/2" Montgomery, MO sterling silver teaspoon. Introduced around 1903, this spoon features an intricate art nouveau deeply carved wheat sheaf on the handle. 'Montgomery, MO' is engraved in script inside the bowl.
In the first decade of the 20th century there was an art nouveau spoon collecting boom in America. Almost all the major silver makers put out many with different carved flowers, fruit and, in this example, wheat, on the handle. Watson's Wheat spoons were popular blanks for souvenir spoons for midwest locations.
The spoon is stamped on the back with the Watson Mechanics flag hallmark and 'STERLING'. The condition is very good. A few light marks from use and storage. No monogram, dings or bends. Box 76.
